5 tips for Buying Men’s Active Wear

The clothing you choose influences your performance both on the sports field and in the gym. Sounds counterintuitive, right?

Most of you never bought proper active wear because you believed it’s going to get hot and sweaty anyway so who cares about the exclusive men’s active wear? Why not just slip into a worn out cotton t-shirt and beat up shorts? Well no, this is not how it works.

We have all been so focused on just going to the gym that we never really took a moment to learn what we should be looking for from a functionality and aesthetics standpoint. This is especially horrifying for athletes who run, take spinning classes, burn out muscles at barre, take yoga and basically wear fitness clothing even when they are not in the gym.

To help you realize the importance of activewear in terms of functionality and performance, we’ve rounded up our top 5 tips for buying men’s active wear.

Size does matter

Men’s workout clothes sizes differ from your regular clothing size. Your demands with your activewear are a lot higher than the rest of your wardrobe. So you may need some extra flexibility when it comes to sizing, providing the space to twist pull, and push in any way your training takes you.

Functionality comes first

Whilst low cut stringers may look sexier, but are they practical during training? Not always. Your activewear has to be functional, cut with the designs which flatter your form and move freely with you during training. This feature goes hand in hand with sizing. While a skin fitted T-shirt may show off a muscular physique, it may also limit your range of movement. Therefore, always try your activewear on and check if it’s perfect for your gym movements.

Sportiness is a priority

The rise in the popularity of men’s athleisure wear has witnessed the partnership of fashion and fitness. However, cheap fashion brands are still releasing ‘activewear’ termed clothing ranges which actually lack technicality and sportiness. They may have the right cuts, but the sport support isn’t there. Go for brands that solely focus on the sportiness and functionality of the activewear.

Choose the right material

Cotton may be comfortable when it’s dry, but it’s not the same when wet. Cotton is not really a goof athlete wear material as it absorbs moisture, which makes it heavy and prone to chafing resulting in restricting your training. Technical fabrics are made keeping in mind the cutting-edge functionality to prevent snags, wick sweat, and allow skin to breathe. Activewear with 100% recycled materials such as reused coffee grounds, which contain natural smell, and superior swear-wicking capabilities is only the best.

Read. All. Damn. Reviews

If a product is good, you will see people going gaga over it. Search for reviews before buying any new fitness men's apparel purchase. If you are a regular trainer and a fitness freak, then this investment can really go a long way for you. Just be confident in what you’re wearing! (And obviously what you’re buying too)
